HOTEL INFORMATION

BOOKING A ROOM

Hotel reservations are closed. You may still be able to book a room by calling 800-648-5080 and providing booking code RNOAA.

The convention price is no longer guaranteed, but one person reports being quoted higher prices for some nights on the phone, and getting the convention rate anyway in their confirmation email. Since there is no penalty to cancel, it's worth trying.

If you already have a reservation, you can modify it here.

Travel Via Megabus

Megabus provides service from both San Francisco, CA and Sacramento, CA that drops off three blocks away from the downtown bus station. Walk to the bus station (3 blocks) and catch bus number 14 (schedule). Megabus service starts at just $1 each way, and increases as the bus gets more sold out.

When booking a Megabus ticket, select the destination as "Reno, NV."

The evening Megabus arrival (9:05pm) leaves 10 minutes to walk to the bus station and catch bus 14 (9:15pm). Walk fast. If Megabus is even a few minutes late arriving in Reno in the evening, you will likely have to wait a full hour for the next #14. If that happens, a taxi should be about $12.

Warning for fursuiters: Megabus has strict baggage limits which are too small for most fursuits. Make sure you can fit within their baggage limits before booking a bus ticket.

Travel Via Amtrak

The Amtrak station is located in downtown Reno.

Walk to the bus station (1 block) and catch bus number 14 (schedule).

FAQ

What is this "resort fee?"
$10 per night (plus 13% tax) is collected as a separate transaction when you check into the hotel. The price we quote on this page includes this $10 (but not the tax) to provide a fair comparison. The booking system does not include this charge. You need to remember that this extra $11.30 per night will be a separate transaction when you first check in.

I have to pay extra for 3 or 4 people?
What gives?
This hotel has a tiered pricing structure. The 4-person price is similar to other conventions, and the 2-person price is cheaper than most.
Since it's only slightly more expensive per-person to have 2 in a room ($39 each) instead of 4 ($31 each), consider treating yourself to some breathing room.

What are check-in/check-out times?
Check-in 3PM.
Check-out 11AM.

How do I make sure
that I have two beds in my room?
When booking a "Value" room, write "2 beds" in the notes and requests section. The hotel has told us they should have no trouble satisfying the 2-bed requests, but officially, 2 beds is not guaranteed.
When booking "Grand" rooms, simply select the King or 2-bed version.

If I use a debit card,
will some of my money be tied up?
The hotel reserves an extra $50/night for incidentals at the time of check-in. If you reserve your room using a debit card, this reservation will reduce your available balance. Due to debit card processing rules, this $50/night temporary reservation may take up to 10 days after hotel checkout to return to your account. The Grand Sierra Resort has no control over when the money is returned; your bank sets that timeframe.
As with most hotels, reserving your room with a credit card usually avoids this inconvenience.

Can I bring a pet with me?
Yes! The GSR is a pet-friendly hotel. Extra charge of (about) $30/night + 13% tax applies, plus a $25 deposit.
If you want to book a room for you and a pet, you must book by phone.

How many rooms are available at the GSR?
There are nearly 2,000 hotel guest rooms are available, ranging from 420 to 922 square feet.

Does the hotel expect to sell out before May 3rd?
Yes. Staff recommends that you reserve your room as soon as possible. Like most hotels, only a credit card is needed to reserve a room, and charges don't happen until the day you stay. You can cancel without penalty up to 48 hours prior to your check-in; there is no "deposit."

What if we have large groups that wish to room together?
The 3rd and 4th person in the room are an extra $20/night; however, many rooms offer connectors to accomodate larger groups. Book your room by phone if you want to request connecting rooms.

What kind of amenities
are provided for the guest rooms?
  • Premium channels and pay-per-view movies
  • Triple Sheet Bedding
  • King or 2 queen beds
  • 24-hour room service
  • Hair Dryer
  • Iron with ironing board
  • Spectacular views of the surrounding Reno area
