Art Show Rules for Bidders
Bidder Agreement
All bidders must sign the bidder agreement. Bring photo ID.
The bidder agreement is a legally binding contract stating you agree to purchase the artwork you bid on if you win,
and agree to pay fines if you make bids you can't afford.
Auction Format
Because we're all about trying new things, our art auction will be a "blind auction" format:
bidders will not be able to see any other bids.
Bidding Procedure (read carefully)
You will be issued serial-numbered tickets to bid with.
To bid, write a whole dollar amount and item ID on the back of a ticket, and turn in to the art show manager.
Your bid amount must be between the minimum and maximum amounts to be valid.
The winning bidder pays a price equal to the 2nd highest bidder, plus one dollar.
Protect your bid tickets like cash.
Someone else can use your bid tickets to impersonate you and spend your money.
If you lose your bid tickets, art show staff will be forced to invalidate the entire group of tickets, including the ones you have already bid with, meaning you must re-bid.
If you simply run out of tickets, staff will issue more to you.
Once you've turned in your bid, no "defending" should be necessary. Go enjoy the con.
Should you ever feel your bid isn't high enough, you can always submit a higher bid for the same item, which overrides your previous bid.
Final Bidding
Final bidding is on Saturday. Bids will be accepted until the close of the Dealer's Den on Saturday. No "voice auction" will occur.
In the rare event two or more bids are tied for first place (or tied at the maximum bid), art show staff will telephone/voicemail all tied bidders,
with instructions to come to the art show at 1pm to have an in-person bidding war.
If a tied bidder has not shown up by 1:45, their bid will be considered an "overbid" subject to the overbidding rules listed below.
Checkout Procedure
Later Saturday night, the final auction winnings will be posted.
If you provide a room number or phone number on your bidder application, staff will leave a paper invoice or voice mail stating your winnings and total amount due.
On Sunday, bring your photo ID to the art show to pay your balance due, and claim your winnings.
If you do not pay for your auction winnings by 3:30pm on Sunday, you agree to be subjected to the overbidding rules below.
Proxy Bidding
You must bid for yourself and only yourself. You also may not pay for anyone else's winnings.
Bags & Food & Drink
Bidders entering the art show area must leave any bags and any food or drink with art show staff.
Staff might eat food you leave with them if it looks very very tasty.
Hands Off
To protect the art on display from damage, the art show is strictly hands-off unless labeled otherwise.
Please do not touch artwork that is on display.
What Happens if You Can't Pay
You will be charged a 15% fine on any bids you don't pay for, and will be banned from participating in next year's art show.
You will not be allowed to register again for BLFC until your fine is paid. The fine is handed over to the artist.
Art Show Rules for Artists
Pricing & Sharing
The art show is divided into 4-foot-by-4-foot vertical pegboard panels.
An artist may purchase panels in either the general or adult section. The first panel is $20, and extra panels are $15 each.
Tables will be available for artwork that is not flat. An artist may purchase one 30-inch-by-4-foot table space for $15.
Two artists may share any panel if desired; simply indicate in your application
(staff must receive an application from both artists indicating each other).
Auction Format (not like other cons, read carefully)
Because we're all about trying new things, our art auction will be a "blind auction" format:
bidders will not be able to see any other bids. All bids will be placed into a locked box.
The highest bid in the lockbox will win the item, and that bidder pays the amount of the second-highest bid, plus one dollar.
Artists must set a minimum bid for each piece. The maximum paper bid is required to be 8 times the minimum bid.
If two or more bidders tie for the winning bid (or tie at the maximum), tied bidders will come to the art show area at 1pm Sunday to have an in-person bidding war.
Bid tickets will be available for audit on Sunday at con-ops, if desired.
Content & Maturity Level
The art show will be divided into a general section and an adult section.
Anything depicting nudity, violence, or sexual acts must be placed in the adult section.
Non-adult artwork is allowed in the adult section (if an artist has mixed-maturity artwork but only wants to buy one panel).
Displaying Art
Art will be displayed on 4-foot-by-4-foot vertical pegboard panels.
BLFC will provide hanging hardware, or you are welcome to use your own.
Artists are encouraged to enclose their artwork in clear plastic film for protection.
Artists are also encouraged to email
dealers@biggestlittlefurcon.org
with pictures of art they plan to have on display.
Not-For-Sale Artwork
Artists may also include pieces for display only.
Staff will mark these pieces as "not for sale."
Mail-in Art
Artists are welcome to mail in artwork for the art show.
Artists are encouraged to submit a diagram indicating placement of their work; staff will do their best to follow the diagram.
Please make sure that all artwork is well-protected for transit, and starting bids are clearly marked.
After the con, BLFC will return payment along with the unsold artwork, using the same packaging.
Return postage will be deducted from the artist's payment.
Payment & Commission
BLFC will be accepting payment for sold artwork from the winning bidders.
There is no "commission" charged by the convention on final bid price.
However, sales tax will be deducted from the final bids, so adjust your starting bid prices accordingly.
BLFC will deduct 7.19% of the final purchase price for sales tax, deduct return postage for unsold art if applicable,
deduct optional charity donation, and remit the remainder to the artist before June 15, 2013.
The state and county sales tax must be handled by BLFC; the artist will not need to file any tax paperwork.
Charity Donation
Anyone can submit anything to benefit our charity at no charge.
If an artist submits for-sale items along with items for the charity auction, each must be clearly labeled.
Artists can optionally choose any percentage of their final sales to be donated to the con's selected
charity.
You will specify your donation percentage on your inventory control sheet at-con.
Liability & Legalese
Staff will be actively watching the entire art show when open, and will do everything possible to prevent damage to your submitted artwork.
By submitting art into the BLFC art show, either in person or by mail, you agree that neither BLFC or its staff can be held liable in any way for damage to or loss of submitted art.
Payment for an art show panel serves as acceptance of this agreement.
What Happens When Someone Doesn't Pay
Bidders who do not pay their bids by 3:30pm Sunday will be subjected to a fine equal to 15% of each of their bad bids, will be banned from bidding in next year's art show,
and will also be forbidden from registering for BLFC until their fine is paid.
In this event, the artist will be contacted and given the option to either offer the piece to the 2nd highest bidder, or cancel the item and have it returned.
Any fines levied on the bidder will be paid to the artist along with their art show payment.
The convention will worry about collecting payment from the bidder.
